The Building Design Process

Each project begins with no preconceptions or commitments to a particular style or outcome.

All designs are developed through a flexible approach, incorporating your requirements and input, with the intention of developing a response through a creative solution.

The process begins with an INITIAL CONSULTATION where we get to know each other. We discuss your needs, desires and budget. We inform you of any regulatory or construction constraints that may affect the design. We discuss various architectural styles, available materials, principals of passive solar and environmentally friendly design. Through our discussions, comes an understanding of what needs to be done, the criteria to be satisfied and the expectations to be met. We discuss various viable options and then create a Design Brief.

We use this Design Brief, along with additional property information obtained, to create a detailed QUOTE. Once this has been accepted THE DESIGN PROCESS begins.

All designs are developed through a flexible approach, incorporating your requirements and input, with the intention of developing a response through a creative solution. In our Design Process, imagination meets intelligence, creative passion meets objective judgement and the concept begins to take shape.

The Design Process itself consists of a number of stages, these are:

  • CONCEPT DESIGN STAGE – Using your Design Brief and additional gathered information as a starting point, we apply our creative and practical expertise to create a predetermined number of tailor-made design options. We then assist you to make an informed choice as to the most appropriate solution for your project.
  • TOWN PLANNING OR DESIGN GUIDELINE ASSESSMENT STAGE– These are not always required, but if they are, then we develop comprehensive documentation to support your application/s, organizing and attending hearings and/or governmental meetings on your behalf.
  • PRELIMINARY WORKING DRAWINGS STAGE – We gather required information from external consultants and use this to further develop your preferred design making any necessary minor changes as required. Hard copies to obtain preliminary quotes from builders are supplied on request.
  • FINAL WORKING DRAWINGS STAGE – Once this stage has been reached it is preferable that no further changes be made. We finalize all of the documentation and supply hard copies that are used to apply for a building permit with the Building Surveyor of your choice.

Taylor Garwood Designs offer you complete support throughout the design process, and are always happy to answer any queries you may have. We use various checklists throughout to ensure that quality is maintained and that the job continues to flow. Our aim is to make every stage of your project an exciting and enjoyable one for all involved.
